Tells us why losing hope doesn’t help. The electorate works with what it gets and teaches and messages to shape the political agents overtime. The arrival of two party fight between SP and BJP is new. It will shape SP to rework its politics and agenda besides pressurising the BJP too. The convoy of democracy moves slowly but surely!

First of all i want to congratulate u for a nice ground story of course with a rational political analysis. Personally I feel that BJP with his hindutva and so much of money they manage electoral win. It was huge propaganda of social welfare . And opposition started very late with old ideological mandal -2 framework.

The anty BJP Or to say the secular parties are lacking the grassroot attention, specialy at booth level. This is a biggest one which deffits them. They are successful this time in U P election at macro level which is encoursging. But if they will collaborate this success with grassroot attention, next time the scinario will may be different.

By the way I thank Ms. Saba for a clear analysis of recent UP ellection.

Very perspicacious. I have also felt that Muslim candidates would have much greater appeal when the common voter can see how much better educated and civilized they are vis-a-vis the barely literate, goonda-criminal candidates who seek election.

Actually am not a believer in the theory that people vote for those who share their identity ( by birth like religion or caste etc). I think you have written very well and analysed it beyond the media and left leaning friends hype of polarization. Am sure you will find lots and lots of winners winning coz people who did not share their identity yet voted for reasons that goes beyond mere identity.

I do find your assumption that because there were multiple candidates sharing same/similar identity, there was division of votes from among the voters belonging to that community.

There are ample examples where the winners belong to the minuscule minority in the constituency and still win with thumping majority.

Any way, you have written very well. Congrats.

Yesterday I was watching Satya Hindi discussion, where you were one of the panelist & you mentioned about this blog. Immediately I read, needless to say it was an unbiased analysis of the ground reports you collected during pre-election times. I have been following you since UPA times, seen you in television debates, even on the then Times Now prime time debates. You were unbiased then too. Problem is that then there were mass medias showing those report & analyses, but today the mainstream media is totally absent. Many like us stopped watching or reading the mainstream media, barring a few. We all resorted to alternate systems, but masses follow only trash stories shown or printed in mainstream media. Don't know how the system will be restored.

This is a nuanced and enlightening piece that asks us to take a more complex view of electoral politics in the time of majoritarianism.
