I am out of India, but feel compelled to put down a few lines after hearing about the shocking events in Udaipur where a Hindu man was beheaded by a Muslim and recorded by his friend because the victim reportedly supported a BJP’s spokespersons comments about the Prophet of Islam.

This beheading of a fellow Hindu citizen is absolutely wrong. However, the Modi government which is going all out to create and sustain the binary of Hindus and Muslims for its political survival and for pushing the narrow agenda of a Hindu Rashtra against the spirit of the Indian Constitution, is largely responsible for this heinous episode. Muslim citizens are literally being drawn to the extreme of their limit to tolerance. While the perpetrator of this crime needs to be punished as per the law, the government needs strictly to work as per the spirit of the constitution. Nupur Sharma should be arrested forthwith instead of being protected under special security.
